(VOVWORLD) -The inauguration of a commemorative plaque commemorating President Ho Chi Minh is a strong affirmation of the historical relationship between Vietnam and France, said Party General Secretary and State President To Lam on Sunday, while attending the inauguration of the plaque in France's Sainte-Adresse city.

He applauded the city for considering the plaque as a heritage site, and thanked the French people for preserving sites that were significant in Ho Chi Minh's quest for national salvation.

"Perhaps the years spent in France on his journey to redeem Vietnam were an opportunity for Ho Chi Minh and the Vietnamese people to bond with the French people by sharing the values of peace, freedom and solidarity and working together to fight against oppression and exploitation in the world," Mr Lam said.

The commemorative plaque is in front of the house that Ho Chi Minh once lived in, which is now a community center. The plaque says, in both French and Vietnamese, that from 1911-1912 Ho Chi Minh lived and worked in the city of Sainte-Adresse in the Masquelier area during his long journey for the future of Vietnam.
