(VOVWORLD) - Countries and international organizations have continued efforts to dispatch humanitarian aid to Gaza, where the humanitarian situation remains “extremely dire.”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) carried out its 60th airdrop of humanitarian aid over Gaza on Saturday. In just one week, the UAE has delivered by air 3,800 tons of humanitarian aid to the enclave. It also sent 22 medical aid trucks to Gaza in coordination with the World Health Organization. The shipment included medicines and other medical supplies intended to help sustain healthcare services and meet the immediate needs of operational hospitals.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that aircraft from Jordan, the UAE, Egypt, Germany, and France airdropped 90 packages of humanitarian aid, containing food, throughout the Gaza Strip. This marked the second day that European countries joined aerial aid deliveries into the region.

However, the volume of humanitarian aid brought into Gaza over the past week under the easing of the Israeli military blockade has met only a fraction of the actual urgent needs of the 2.3 million residents.

German government spokesperson Stefan Kornelius said on Friday that the amount of aid entering Gaza remains very insufficient to alleviate the emergency situation.
