Earlier the same day, the United Kingdom announced it had conducted its first airdrop of humanitarian aid into Gaza.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said two German aircraft had departed for Jordan and may begin dropping aid as early as this weekend.
The new push for emergency assistance comes amid growing concern from international organizations. In recent days, UN agencies including the World Food Programme (WFP), UNICEF and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned of severe hunger among Gaza’s more than two million residents. The agencies called for urgent efforts to deliver large-scale food aid to Gaza.
