Also on Thursday, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) lifted all tsunami warnings, one day after they were issued for areas from northern Hokkaido to western Wakayama prefecture, and advisory level on Wednesday night in some locations. JMA said no coastal areas in Japan are currently under tsunami warning or advisory.
On Wednesday, the 8.8-magnitude earthquake off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula had triggered tsunami warnings across the Pacific Rim, affecting several countries from Japan to the US.
Most warnings have been lifted, and millions of evacuated residents have returned home.
