Back in August, Nvidia and AMD agreed to share 15% of their revenue from chip sales to China with the US government. The H200 chip now permitted for sale is a higher-end model, though not Nvidia’s most powerful line.
US President Trump added that he had informed Chinese President Xi Jinping of the decision, and that the Chinese leader had responded positively. According to Trump, the transactions will take place under conditions that safeguard national security.
The US Department of Commerce is finalizing the details and indicated that a similar approach will apply to other US-based chipmakers, including AMD and Intel.
