UN Police Adviser Faisal Shahkar called the move a positive development not only for Vietnam, but also for the UN’s peacekeeping operations at large.
"We're very happy that Vietnam becomes one of those countries who has legal provisions and this will enhance the support of including the funding of different projects, including the trainings. So because if you have a legal base, then things become more smooth and easier," he said.
The law will help Vietnam strengthen its international cooperation and learn from foreign experts and colleagues, towards developing a peacekeeping force that meets UN standards.
Head of Indonesia’s Police Peacekeeping Training Center, Major Andi Rio Indra Saputra, said, "I think Vietnam is on the right way for showing your devotion to the peacekeeping missions. I think there's not much problem. You're on the right path now."
The law will take effect on January 1 next year.
