National Assembly Chairman meets Thai Prime Minister

(VOVWORLD) - National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man on Thursday met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, who is on an official visit to Vietnam and will co-chair the 4th Meeting of the Vietnam–Thailand Joint Cabinet, taking place from May 15 to 16.

Chairman Man urged the two countries to leverage their complementary strengths in the digital economy, green energy, regional supply chains, and smart agriculture and encouraged both sides to capitalize on existing free trade agreements, particularly the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), to raise bilateral trade to 25 billion USD by 2030.

He also reiterated the Vietnamese National Assembly’s commitment to enhance the legal framework and foster a favorable environment for businesses and investors from both countries and support joint initiatives in strategic areas, including the digital economy, green transformation, and sustainable development.

Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra said the strengthened Vietnam–Thailand cooperation is of great importance, particularly amid current regional and global challenges. She proposed expanding high-level delegation exchanges, deepening collaboration between the Friendship Parliamentary Groups of the two countries, and enhancing experience-sharing in legislation and coordination at multilateral parliamentary forums.

The two leaders also agreed on the need to boost cooperation in tourism, railway, and aviation connectivity, including studying the feasibility of launching direct flights between more localities in Thailand and Vietnam, and opening a railway link connecting Vietnam with Thailand’s northeastern provinces.
