(VOVWORLD) - The Foreign Ministers of Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Australia signed a joint statement on Saturday condemning a plan recently approved by Israel’s Security Cabinet to take full control of the Gaza Strip.

In the statement, the countries asserted that any attempt at annexation or expansion of settlements violates international law. They warned that Israel’s plan to assume complete control over Gaza would worsen the humanitarian crisis, endanger the lives of hostages, and risk triggering new migration crises.

The joint statement also called for an immediate end to the conflict amid an unprecedented humanitarian emergency, urging Hamas to release all hostages unconditionally and to ensure they are treated humanely. The Palestinian side strongly welcomed the statement.
