Ho Chi Minh City has launched a data center which has nearly 1,250 servers and is monitored around the clock by professional teams. The center is an integrated platform for data sharing among 2,000 units and is connected to the national data platform. Municipal authorities aim to build international-standard data centers to store and process data for the southern key economic region.

Investments in advanced data centers and high-performance computing centers are part of the city's strategy to develop innovative digital economic models.

Vo Minh Thanh, Deputy Director of the municipal Department of Science and Technology, said the digital economy is a strategic path to greater labor productivity. “It enhances the competitiveness of enterprises and contributes to economic development by focusing on industry, digital technology, and digital transformation.”

Ho Chi Minh City targets double-digit growth this year, with the digital economy seen as a driving force.

Tran Thi Dieu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the City People’s Committee, said local authorities will push forward several initiatives. They include fine-tuning institutions, mechanisms, and policies; strongly developing digital infrastructure and data, with increasing investment in cloud computing to ensure information security; and building a high-quality workforce, especially in semiconductors and strategic technologies, with incentive policies.

“We will also support businesses in applying digital technologies for e-commerce development, promote the digital government, and enhance international cooperation,” said Thuy.

Innovation and digital transformation are keys to promoting a fast, sustainable, and inclusive digital and social economy. With synchronized and effective implementation of these tasks, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to soon become Vietnam’s leading digital economy hub.
