(VOVWORLD) - In the first half of this year, Noi Bai International Airport welcomed more than 16.5 million passengers and handled more than 100,000 aircraft take-offs and landings. The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route accounted for the largest number of flights.

On average, 60 to 70 round-trip flights operate daily between Vietnam’s two major cities, meaning an aircraft takes off or lands every 3 to 4 minutes. This high frequency made the Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route among the 10 busiest domestic air routes in the world.

Le Thi Thanh is Director of the Truong Thinh Aviation and Tourism Services Joint Stock Company. She said:  “The Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City route being listed as one of the world’s busiest domestic routes shows its significance to Vietnam’s economy and domestic mobility. It’s a great opportunity for us to enhance and expand our services as these are two major economic and cultural hubs of Vietnam. The demand for business and family travel is very high, and the distance makes air travel the optimal choice. Ticket sales for this route are consistently strong, outperforming other domestic routes.”

Despite the large passenger volume, Noi Bai airport achieved an on-time performance (OTP) rate of 74% from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. Its Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM) system has optimized scheduling, parking, and ground handling, significantly reduced wait times, and improved punctuality for more than 100,000 flights.

Nguyen Van Huan is a frequent flyer on the Hanoi-HCM City route. Huan said: “I fly from Hanoi to the south two to three times a month. In terms of delays, I find the Noi Bai-Tan Son Nhat route to be the most reliable in recent years.”
