In his address at the event in Da Nang city, Lieutenant General Do Xuan Tung, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics, said that in addition to protecting sovereignty, the Vietnam People's Army is a pioneer in environmental protection, ecosystem preservation, resource management and climate change response.

Military units, especially the Navy, Border Guard, Vietnam Coast Guard and Fisheries Surveillance, have actively coordinated with central and local agencies  to implement many practical programs, linking national defense and security with socio-economic development and marine ecological environment protection.

Military units are also the leading force in preventing, combating, overcoming the consequences of natural disasters, searching and rescuing, responding to marine incidents or environmental pollution, Mr. Tung said.
