Chairing a meeting of the National Steering Committee for Combating Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing on Tuesday in Ho Chi Minh City, the Prime Minister asked the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, in coordination with the Ministry of National Defense, to effectively implement the Intersectoral Coordination Regulation on combating IUU fishing. Ministries and sectors are urged to strengthen coordination in inspecting and guiding coastal localities with fishing fleets in preparation for the EC’s fifth inspection mission.
"Related agencies must work with the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and provide required information for the inspection mission. We must resolve all issues in completing traceability records and the national fisheries database and make them publicly available on mass media, and tighten control over imported seafood raw materials to prevent IUU-sourced products from entering Vietnam," said Mr. Chinh.
