Vietnam Coast Guard joins natural disaster recovery efforts in Philippines

(VOVWORLD) - The Vietnam Coast Guard team this week took part in joint disaster relief activities with the Philippinegovernment and peoplein Cebu city, which has been hit by super typhoon Bualoi and a 6.9-magnitude earthquake, killing 69 people, injuring more than 150 and collapsing more than 3,500 houses.

The team led by Major General Tran Quang Tuan, Commander of Coast Guard Region 2, on board ship CSB 8002, visited the Philippinesand exchanged with local Coast Guard. On Wednesday, they travelled more than 100km to Bogo province, where locals were reeling from the earthquake.

The team presented 1 ton of rice, instant noodles, dry food, and bottled drinking water to the government and people. The military medical officers on the ship together with medical officers of the Philippine Coast Guard conducted medical examinations and provided free medicine to affected people.
