(VOVWORLD) - A delegation of the Naval Region 5 Command and representatives from several provinces and cities, businesses, and media agencies, on Saturday paid a Lunar New Year visit to Tho Chau special zone in An Giang province.

They also commemorated the 500 innocent civilians killed by the Khmer Rouge 50 years ago.

The same day, together with officers and soldiers of Radar Station 610 and local residents, the delegation participated in an early Lunar New Year celebration featuring cultural performances, traditional games, and festive decorations.

Tran Quoc Giang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of the Tho Chau special zone, said: "We are delighted to welcome the delegations from the mainland. This sentiment is shared among the local authorities and the people. Each visit further strengthens the bond between the Party Committee, the government, and the people."

Radar Station 610 was established on December 26, 1976, under the command of Naval Region 5. The station, together with other forces, has played an important role in safeguarding Vietnam’s sovereignty over its southwestern seas, islands, and continental shelf, as well as in combating IUU fishing in the southwestern waters.
