On October 26, 1975, the Ministry of National Defense issued a decision to establish five coastal regions, including Coastal Region 1, the predecessor of today's Naval Region 1.

From only four units, Naval Region 1 now has three affiliated agencies and nine units with the core mission of building the all-people national defense posture, and protecting the Fatherland’s sovereignty of the northern sea, islands, and continental shelf. Over 50 years, officers and soldiers of Naval Region 1 have been united, overcome difficulties, improved overall quality and combat strength, becoming a fulcrum for fishermen to go offshore.

Rear Admiral Tran Xuan Van, Political Commissar of Naval Region 1, said: “After 50 years, Naval Region 1 has continuously grown, becoming the core force in protecting the Fatherland’s sovereignty over the northern sea and islands. To have that mettle, will and strength, one of the core factors is the glorious tradition and patriotism, the indomitable will and pride in the sea and islands of the officers and soldiers of Naval Region 1, which have been forged through half a century of fighting, training and maturing."

At the 50th anniversary ceremony, authorized by the President, Rear Admiral Nguyen Van Bach, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Navy, presented the First Class Fatherland Protection Order to the Naval Region 1 Command.
