(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam has signed agreements worth nearly 3 billion USD on importing agricultural products from the US. The deals were reached during a working trip from June 2–6 to the US states of Iowa, Ohio, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., of a delegation of Vietnam's Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, marking significant advancement in the Vietnam-US trade ties.

The delegation, headed by Minister of Agriculture and Environment Do Duc Duy,  included representatives from nearly 50 Vietnamese government agencies, enterprises, and agricultural associations. The mission aimed to promote bilateral agricultural trade and deepen bilateral cooperation.

Minister Do Duc Duy said Vietnamese companies agreed to import American agricultural products worth nearly 3 billion USD, exceeding the initial target of 2 billion USD. This outcome contributes to balancing trade between the two countries, said Minister Do Duc Duy, adding: “Through business forums and bilateral meetings, Vietnamese and American companies shared information, explored investment opportunities, and expanded cooperation in agricultural trade.”

“Through field visits, we learned about strong potential for deepened collaboration in agriculture, particularly in science and technology application, innovation, green transition, and digital transformation. Throughout the trip, the Vietnamese delegation clearly conveyed to US policymakers, state governments, and the business community that Vietnam places great importance on strengthening its comprehensive strategic partnership with the United States, with trade and investment remaining central pillars."

Reviewing the signed agreements, Mr. Ted Osius, President and CEO of the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), said that "What the MOUs represent is good business and good politics because a lot of the export will come, from rural states in the United States. For example, Ohio and Iowa where they just signed major deals."

The agreements will draw more attention from the US administration as Vietnam is showing its willingness for cooperation to address the trade imbalance, said Mr. Ted Osius.
