Vietnam prepares for US trade talks with eye on mutual benefit

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam aims for balanced and sustainable trade with the US, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said on Tuesday while chairing a meeting with relevant  ministries and agencies to prepare for upcoming trade talks with the US.

Emphasizing the principle of “harmonized interests, shared risks,” he said Vietnam must safeguard its legitimate rights and interests while accommodating reasonable concerns from the US side during the negotiations.

“We must be patient and proactive, manage expectations, respond promptly to the US’s requests, and be prepared to make mutual concessions while defending our interests,” the Prime Minister said.

He instructed ministries to explore ways to increase bilateral trade, including the imports of high-tech US products, and to consider VAT refund policies for firms, including American businesses operating in Vietnam.
