Vietnam, US discuss deepening partnership

(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh spoke highly of the US's support for a "strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous" Vietnam, and welcomed the US's continued efforts to overcome the consequences of war.

He also asked the US to increase technology transfer to Vietnam.

Mr. Chinh was speaking during a reception in Hanoi on Wednesday for a bipartisan delegation of the US House of Representatives, led by John Moolenaar, a member of the US House Appropriations Committee.

PM Chinh asked US congressmen to continue supporting the development of the relationship between the two sides, including considering removing Vietnam from the strategic export control list (D1-D3) and recognizing Vietnam's market economy status.

He suggested that during the ongoing trade talks, the US should pay attention to Vietnam's specific conditions and have a more balanced approach for sustainable, healthy and stable trade relations.

They US delegation affirmed that Vietnam is an important partner of the US in the region and promoting bilateral relations has received bipartisan support in the US Congress. 

They said that the US will continue to support Vietnam in achieving its strategic development goals.
