Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh meets with Speaker of the Swedish Parliament Andreas Norlén, Stockholms, Sweden, June 12, 2025. |
Mr. Chinh said his official visit will build momentum for bilateral cooperation and elevate Vietnam–Sweden ties to a new level.
He called on the Swedish parliament to advocate for prompt ratification of the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and for the European Commission to lift its “yellow card” on Vietnam’s seafood exports. PM Chinh said Vietnam will promote investment by its high-tech enterprises in Sweden. Like Sweden, he said, Vietnam aspires to provide its people with a prosperous, free and happy life – a vision he described as the highest aim of democracy.
Speaker Norlén said bilateral ties have seen positive growth, including stronger dialogue and cooperation between the two parliaments. He noted that Sweden was the first Western nation to recognise and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam, and it stands ready to support Vietnam in its goal of becoming a high-income, developed country by 2045.
During his visit, PM Chinh also met with Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, and paid a visit to the family of former Prime Minister Olof Palme.
