Vietnam joins ASEAN with open-mindedness, responsibility, long-term commitment

(VOVWORLD) - Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said Monday that Vietnam's 1995 accession to ASEAN marked a historic milestone, showing Vietnam’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and development.

During a reception celebrating 30 years of Vietnam in ASEAN (July 28), Deputy PM Son noted that Vietnam joined ASEAN with open-mindedness, responsibility, and a long-term commitment, and is committed to supporting and actively contributing to the ASEAN Community Vision 2045, thereby strengthening ASEAN’s solidarity, centrality, and strategic autonomy.

Malaysian Ambassador to Vietnam Dato’ Tan Yang Thai, on behalf of ASEAN member countries and as ASEAN Chair 2025, said: “Vietnam has been an active, responsible, and constructive partner, committed to deepening economic integration, nurturing peace and stability, and advancing a rules-based regional order. Over the past three decades, Vietnam has played an integral role as a member of ASEAN, with substantive strategic contributions.”

The Ambassador praised Vietnam's leadership and the ASEAN Future Forum, an initiative of Vietnam, calling the forum a platform for ideas and a powerful message of an ASEAN that proactively shapes its future, adapts to changes, and prioritizes its people.
