The highlight of the day was the Vietnamese football’s breathtaking 3-2 victory over host team Thailand. The U22 Vietnamese team was trailing Thailand by 2 goals, but with determination and resilience, coach Kim Sang Sik's players came back to defeat Thailand after 120 minutes of play.
Adding to the gold medal in men's football, Thursday was also a memorable day for the Vietnamese women's futsal team. The girls made history by defeating Indonesia 5-0 in the final and winning their first ever gold medal at a SEA Games.
The Vietnamese men's sepak takraw team also performed brilliantly and brought home the gold medal in the four-person event after a 22-year wait.
The wrestling team made a significant contribution by winning 4 gold medals in freestyle wrestling in the 50kg women, 62kg women, 53kg women, and 57kg women weight categories.
Other gold medals came from triathlon team relay, dragon boat racing (women's 10m race), and fencing.
By the end of Thursday's competition, team Vietnam bagged 73 golds, 72 silvers, and 99 bronzes, ranking third on the medal table behind Thailand and Indonesia.
