Vietnam hosts sideline event on sustainable food system

(VOVWORLD) - The Permanent Mission of Vietnam in Geneva has co-hosted a side event themed "Transforming Food Systems to Adapt to Climate Change and Ensure the Right to Food: Sharing Experiences and Practices," in collaboration with the delegations of Bangladesh, Mexico, and the Netherlands.

At the event, held on Thursday on the sidelines of the 59th session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland, Mr. Le Minh Tuan from the Department of International Cooperation under Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Environment presented Vietnam's practical experience in promoting sustainable food systems.

He highlighted the program to develop one million hectares of high-quality, low-emission rice in the Mekong Delta by 2030. He emphasized that this initiative aims not only to increase farmers’ incomes, protect the environment, and reduce emissions but also to ensure the right to food, especially for vulnerable groups such as women and the poor.

He said as a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2023–2025 term and a country heavily affected by climate change, Vietnam is committed to continued close cooperation with countries, international organizations, and the global community to develop sustainable, people-centered solutions for a future free from hunger and in harmony with nature.
