UN praises Vietnam’s commitment to multilateralism, international law

(VOVWORLD) - Ambassador Do Hung Viet, Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the UN, paid a courtesy visit to President of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly Philemon Yang on Thursday, during which Mr. Yang praised Vietnam’s development achievements and steadfast commitment to multilateralism, international law, and the UN Charter.

Mr. Viet congratulated President Yang on the achievements of the 79th General Assembly session despite the growing challenges to multilateralism and the UN itself. He said dialogue and mutual respect are the cornerstone of international peace and security as well as sustainable development.

Drawing from Vietnam's historical experience, Ambassador Viet said he wants to make substantive contributions to post-conflict reconciliation and healing efforts. He affirmed Vietnam's readiness to share its expertise and strengthen its role in building sustainable peace around the globe.

President Yang wished Mr. Viet a successful tenure that will improve Vietnam’s image and international standing and promote cooperation and dialogue between UN member states.

Earlier, following the presentation of his credentials, Ambassador Viet held meetings with several UN leaders to whom he reiterated Vietnam’s strong commitment to the UN agenda, particularly initiatives addressing global challenges.
