(VOVworld) – The US is not targeting and will not target the communications of French President Francois Hollande, said National Security Council spokesman Ned Price on Tuesday.

 Price added that Washington does not conduct any foreign intelligence surveillance activities unless there is a specific and valid national security purpose, adding that this applies to ordinary citizens and world leaders alike. The remarks came after WikiLeaks documents disclosed that the US’s National Security Agency had wiretapped the last three presidents of France, including Jacques Chirac, Nicolas Sarkozy, and current leader Francois Hollande. The intelligence surveillance activities took place from 2006 to May, 2012, after President Holland took office from Sarkozy.
