The conversation, the first between the two leaders in 2026, took place at the initiative of the White House, Russian presidential adviser Yuri Ushakov said. The conversation was “frank and constructive,” Ushakov said, adding that both leaders expressed their intention to maintain regular contact. The Kremlin said Trump reaffirmed his desire to see Russia and Ukraine reach a lasting conclusion to their conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the next round of talks with Russia and the US has been postponed, but the parties will remain in contact. Reports had suggested that trilateral talks would take place in Turkey on March 11, but the administration of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has not commented on those reports.
