The announcement followed a phone call between the two leaders earlier in the day. The date of the meeting has yet to be confirmed.
Trump said on Truth Social that the call “was a very productive one.” “I believe great progress was made with today's telephone conversation," he added.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the two leaders had agreed to hold a high-level meeting on the Ukraine issue next week.
Trump is expected to brief Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the discussion when they meet at the Oval Office on Friday.
Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and Putin’s special envoy for economic cooperation, described the phone call as “positive and productive,” adding that the next steps had been clearly defined.
