The voting session took more than 24 hours, during which senators voted on dozens of proposed amendments to the bill.
The vote was a major legislative victory for the Republican Party, as the bill is expected to become a central focus of President Trump's second term and significantly reshape the role of the federal government.
The bill includes the extension of tax cuts from President Trump’s first term in 2017; increased military spending; implementation of the President’s immigration enforcement and mass deportation plans; a cut of around 1 trillion USD from Medicaid (the federal health insurance program for low-income individuals and people with disabilities) and other healthcare programs; and deep cuts to clean energy funding and funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) which feeds low-income families.
