The rallies, led by the Muslim Brotherhood, gathered a number of political parties and Islamic movements in response to a call by the National Alliance to Support Legitimacy (NASL). Small rallies in Cairo, neigbouring province Giza, and 7 other provinces were dispersed by security forces using tear gas.

Home-made bombs were set off in several places. One blew up in railway car, injuring nine people.

Armed gunmen attacked the headquarters of a security agency in Al-Alrish city, the capital of north Sinai province with no casualties. The State news agency MENA reported that the Egyptian army carried out a raid that killed 17 Islamist militants and resulted in the arrest of 12 suspects in bombings of security forces in north and south Sinai.
