At a meeting with Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo at the Finnish Parliament headquarters on Tuesday as part of his official visit to Finland, Party General Secretary To Lam expressed Vietnam’s willingness to serve as a bridge to promote cooperation between Vietnam and the European Union (EU), and between Finland and ASEAN.
As Finland is a potential trade partner of Vietnam in Northern Europe, the Party General Secretary called on Finland to share its experience in developing a circular economy and to encourage Finnish enterprises to boost investment in Vietnam, particularly in areas of Finland’s strengths such as maritime cooperation, renewable energy, environmental protection, and advanced processing technologies.
He also urged Finland to support the European Commission (EC) in lifting the “yellow card” warning imposed on Vietnam’s seafood exports related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Prime Minister Petteri Orpo affirmed that Finland will continue promoting bilateral relations, focusing on economic, trade and investment cooperation, science and technology, the green and circular economy, renewable energy, digital transformation, innovation, and healthcare.
