During talks on Tuesday, Party leader To Lam and Finnish President Alexander Stubb agreed to promote cooperation in multiple fields, particularly information technology, forestry, the circular economy, green transition, sustainable marine development, and science and technology.

Both sides stressed the importance of effectively implementing the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

Mr. Lam emphasized that Vietnam welcomes and will continue to create favorable conditions for Finnish enterprises to invest in the country. He affirmed Vietnam’s readiness to work with Finland to serve as a bridge linking the EU and ASEAN markets, thereby further strengthening Vietnam-EU and Finland-ASEAN cooperation.

He called on Finland to encourage the remaining seven EU member states to soon ratify the EVIPA and to urge the European Commission to lift its “yellow card” warning on Vietnam’s seafood exports related to illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Party leader Lam also expressed hope that Finland will continue supporting the Vietnamese community’s integration and contribution to Finnish society.

President Stubb said Finland is ready to cooperate with Vietnam in areas where Finland has strengths and Vietnam has demand, including the circular economy, science and technology, education and training, and climate change response.

The two leaders agreed to enhance collaboration in other areas such as education, local cooperation, and people-to-people exchanges.

They underscored the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region and the world, settling disputes by peaceful means in accordance with international law, exercising restraint, and ending conflicts.

Regarding the East Sea issue, both sides reaffirmed their support for ASEAN’s common stance of resolving differences peacefully and in line with international law.
