(VOVworld) – Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas said Monday that Israel escalated tensions when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced new security measures to prevent Palestinian attacks against Israelis.

The Israeli military struck many Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in retaliation for a rocket attack in Israel’s territory, the second rocket attack targeting Israel in 5 days. A rocket fired from the Gaza Strip was intercepted in Ashdod by Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile system.

On Monday, a 13-year-old was shot dead by Israeli security forces during clashes at the Aida refugee camp in the West Bank. This was the second person killed in West Bank within 24 hours.
