The 16th National Radio Festival, themed "Vietnam Radio – diversity in digital transformation", opened Thursday evening in Thanh Hoa city, involving 81 units who submitted 380 works in various genres.

At the opening ceremony, Head of the Party Central Committee’s Communication and Education Commission Nguyen Trong Nghia said that after nearly 80 years of development, the Voice of Vietnam in particular and the radio industry in general have affirmed their role as a sharp ideological weapon and a key information channel orienting public opinion.

It’s a reliable forum for people to take part in oversight, criticism, and social management as well as a bridge between the Party, State, and people, contributing to creating social consensus and strengthening people's trust in the Party and State, according to Mr. Nghia.

He urged the radio industry to be more proactive, timely, and creative in information dissemination, closely follow the vivid realities of social life and the renewal process, be ready to take the lead, learn about new, major, difficult issues, and disseminate Party guidelines and State policies and laws to the public.

“The radio system, from the central to the grassroots level, needs to continue to effectively promote its role in oversight and social criticism, creating a forum to attract people's active participation in institution building and policy making, building a socialist rule of law state.”

Efforts should be made to build and develop Vietnamese culture and people in the new era to create soft power and endogenous strength for national development, strongly inspire patriotic emulation movements, honor examples of good people and good deeds, build a healthy information society, and actively participate in the fight against corruption, negativity, self-evolution and self-transformation, he said.

“It is crucial to strengthen the protection of the Party's ideological foundation, fight against wrong and hostile information and viewpoints, and improve the quality of information on foreign policies and diplomacy of the Party, State, and people,” Mr Nghia noted.

Cultural and sports activities are taking place on the sidelines of the event, plus international workshops on "Radio digital transformation: international and Vietnamese practice", the 9th national exchange of Cheo (popular theater) fans, and a running event called "For a Healthy Wave".
