Vietnam, China maintain land border stability for development cooperation

(VOVWORLD) - The completion of border demarcation and border marker planting on December 31, 2008, holds tremendous historical significance, opening a new chapter in the bilateral relationship and marking a crucial turning point in the history of establishing the Vietnam-China borderline, said Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son.

Minister  Son was speaking at a conference in Hanoi on Friday to mark 25 years of the Vietnam-China boundary treaty and 15 years of three legal documents on land border and border management between the two countries.

The border demarcation and border marker planting involves a border length of nearly 1,450 kilometers and the planting of 1,970 markers, spanning 7 provinces in Vietnam and 15 counties and cities in Yunnan Province and the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region of China.

“This achievement met the aspirations of the people of both countries, contributing to creating and maintaining a peaceful and stable environment in the region and the world, and to the common principles of international law," said Minister Son. 

He said Vietnam and China have maintained stability along their land border after 25 years of signing the boundary treaty, creating conditions for border localities to increase exchanges and cooperation. 

Head of the Party Central Committee’s External Relations Commission, Le Hoai Trung, said Vietnam will continue to actively coordinate with China to make the Vietnam-China land border truly one of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation, and development to secure socio-economic development, and a peaceful, stable, prosperous, and happy life to the people of both countries, especially those in the border areas.
