(VOVWORLD) - A delegation of officers and soldiers from the Lao People’s Army will travel to Vietnam on Friday to take part in a parade marking the 80th anniversary of Vietnam’s National Day on September 2, the Lao Defence Ministry said.

It will be the second time this year that the Lao army has sent a delegation to participate in a major Vietnamese celebration parade.

The contingent of 100 officers and soldiers includes several who marched in Russia’s 80th anniversary parade celebrating its victory over German fascism.

“With strong determination, our soldiers are happy and proud, and have trained hard. Our parade group is ready to join this important occasion in Vietnam,” said Major General Kongthong Sokhavong, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Lao People's Army.

The Lao army’s participation has deep political, diplomatic and defense significance and underlines the enduring solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.
