Nguyen Thanh Hong, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Nam province, said, “We set the highest goal of both preserving cultural values and community values, but also developing those values to increase people's income, then improve the ecological environment, repair and embellish tangible and intangible heritage in this city.”
Hoi An Ancient town, a UNESCO world cultural heritage site since 1999, is an exceptionally well-preserved example of a small-scale trading port active the 15th to 19th centuries which traded widely, both with the countries of Southeast and East Asia and with the rest of the world, according to UNESCO.
