(VOVworld) -  600 Muslim clerics and heads of Christian churches from 120 countries gathered Wednesday at an international conference in Cairo on fighting terrorism and extremism.

Shiekh Ahmed el-Tayeb, head of Al-Azhar, one of the most prestigious centres of Sunni Islam learning, condemned the barbaric crimes committed by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, which he said jihadists are committing in the guise of a holy religion. Sheikh Tayeb called on the US-led coalition to confront those countries who support terrorism financially and militarily.

He added that the world cannot have peace if the conflict between Israel and Palestine is not resolved.
