Acting foreign minister underlines Vietnam’s stable, long-term cooperation with China

(VOVWORLD) - Vietnam considers consolidating and developing a stable, long-term friendship and cooperation with China to be a consistent policy and top priority, Acting Foreign Minister Le Hoai Trung said on Thursday while receiving Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam He Wei, who paid a visit to congratulate him on his new role.

Mr. Trung said Vietnam’s diplomatic agencies and their Chinese counterparts should strengthen coordination and maintain regular high-level exchanges. He noted that defense and security cooperation and economic connectivity should be enhanced, with particular focus on cross-border railway projects.

He added that Vietnam wants to expand practical cooperation in trade, investment, science, technology, and innovation, while boosting people-to-people exchanges to reinforce the social foundation for bilateral ties.

The Acting Minister urged the two sides to resolve differences on maritime issues and handle them in a spirit of friendship, mutual respect for legitimate rights and interests, and empathy for each other’s positions, in line with international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Ambassador He Wei said China is ready to work with Vietnam to deepen cooperation across sectors. He stressed that Beijing will support activities of the 2025 Year of Vietnam-China Humanistic Exchange and commemoration of the 75th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic relations.
