23,000 runners join Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon

(VOVWORLD) -The 8th Techcombank Ho Chi Minh City International Marathon on Sunday became the marathon event with the largest number of participants in Vietnam – more than 23,000 runners from 81 countries and territories, up 30% compared to the previous year.

In the men's marathon (42.195 km), the competition was tough until the last kilometers. Ayalew Seleshi Simaneh from Ethiopia finished first in 2:23:13, winning the championship. Two other Ethiopians Wondale Melsew Baye and Kebede Leta Girma finished second and third in 2:23:25 and 2:23:34.

In the women's marathon, Pham Thi Hong Le of Vietnam finished first in 2:48:10. The second and third place went to Ethiopian athletes Mohamed Yenework Husen and Birehan Marta Tinsae.

This year's season continued to show the maturity of the Vietnamese marathon movement. The professional quality was raised when the race brought together many experienced faces alongside the young and rising athletes.
