(VOVWORLD) - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has approved emergency assistance worth 7.6 million USD and 100 tons of rice for Điện Biên province, which was ravaged by recent floods.

At a meeting with local authorities on Sunday after inspecting several flood-stricken communes, the PM asked the Vietnam Fatherland Front to support the 80 families whose houses were swept away by the floods. The Prime Minister called for an immediate cleanup of damaged schools to make sure the new academic year begins on schedule on September 5.

He advised localities to restructure their agricultural production, both crops and livestock, to adapt to local conditions. Mr. Chinh stressed the need to revise long-term residential planning, taking into account landslide-prone areas and identifying safe locations for irrigation infrastructure.
