The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union aims to adopt a new vision, continually reform its activities, create an environment for young people to improve themselves, and promote a spirit of pioneering and creativity to realize aspirations for a prosperous and happy Vietnam.

In that spirit this year’s Congress adopted the slogan "Aspiration-Solidarity-Courage-Pioneering-Creativity."

The Central Committee of the Youth Union will set goals, tasks, and solutions for the Youth Union in the next 5-year term, which will be closely aligned with the goals set by the Communist Party of Vietnam.

First Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Bui Quang Huy said: “Major goals include building a generation of young people who are qualified to meet the requirements of national construction in the new period. The role of young people will be further promoted to build a stronger Youth Union and achieve Vietnam’s goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by the middle of this century.”

During the 2017-2022 term, young people nationwide engaged in practical and meaningful activities like "Volunteer Youth", "Creative Youth", and "Youth Pioneers to Defend the Fatherland".

Three programs were launched to support young people in promoting education, starting a business, and improving their life skills, physical fitness, and cultural life. The Youth Union has also protected the rights of young people.

Youth Unions at all levels have built 12,000 entertainment venues for young people, provided financial support for young people to do business and career counseling to more than 12 million young people, and helped 4 million children in disadvantaged circumstances.

Youth volunteers installed lights along 5,800km of rural roads and established 10,000 youth volunteer teams to assist COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control efforts.
