Ly Van Tri from Hoai Nhon commune said his vessel brought home 39 tunas after nearly 20 days and nights of offshore fishing: “My boat went fishing from January 22 to February 9 and succeeded in this very first fishing crop of the new lunar year. The price is good at 150 thousand dong per kilogram. We caught 39 tunas and earned 250 million dong, or a net income of more than 16 million dong for each fisherman.”
Binh Dinh province had some 1400 offshore fishing vessels in operation during Tet, including 860 tuna fishing vessels. Director of the provincial Department of Agricultural and Rural Development, Tran Van Phuc, said most of them gained a profitable trip: “Each tuna fishing vessel could bring home up to 1.5 tons of fish. This is a promising start of the new year in the local aquacultural industry”.
