Mr. Huynh Ngoc Nha, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development in Soc Trang, reported that the province has taken strong steps to combat IUU fishing, achieving significant progress.
All 342 fishing vessels over 15 meters in length are now equipped with monitoring devices. Notably, no fishing vessels from Soc Trang have engaged in illegal fishing in foreign waters since the start of 2023.
Nha said: “In monitoring seafood unloaded at local ports, 1,629 fishing vessels have docked, with 29,473 tons of seafood recorded, reaching 63.2% of the year’s target. The Port Fisheries Control Team conducts around-the-clock inspections to ensure compliance with fishing regulations.”
Deputy Minister Tien emphasized the importance of strengthening fleet management, monitoring fishing vessel activities, ensuring traceability, and addressing IUU violations resolutely in the future.
