(VOVWORLD) - Hung Vuong Hospital, an obstetrics and gynecology hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, was founded 100 years ago. It has grown from a small, ill-equipped clinic into a leading public hospital providing international standard medical services. Associate Professor Dr. Hoang Thi Diem Tuyet, the Director of Hung Vuong Hospital, has made a great contribution to this growth and left her imprint on the hospital.

Dr. Tuyet became the Director of Hung Vuong Hospital in 2015. At that time, the hospital had poor facilities and lacked human resources. Tuyet proposed the construction of a complex of multi-functional medical facilities. 2 years later, a modern building with up-to-date equipment and an international standard surgical area was inaugurated. This laid a foundation for improved treatment and advanced techniques.

Le Thi Phuong Dung, a nurse in the Infertility Department, said Dr. Tuyet has always given priority to improving the quality of healthcare and providing the best possible treatment and services to the patients.

“At Hung Vuong hospital, everything must be up to standards, including corridors, green spaces, communications, patient gowns, and doctors and nurses’ performance,” Dung said.

In 2002, Tuyet was sent to the US for a master’s program at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Later, as the Director of Hung Vuong hospital, she decided to make some changes.

“It is essential to improve the quality of reproductive healthcare in the southern region, particularly in Ho Chi Minh City. My colleagues and I have always done our best to provide decent services for Vietnamese women,” said Tuyet.

In 2021 when Ho Chi Minh City became the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak, a large number pregnant women were hospitalized. Many of whom died of COVID-19 complications. On Dr. Tuyet’s initiative, Hung Vuong hospital became the first Vietnamese hospital to provide coronavirus vaccinations for pregnant women.

At that time, Hung Vuong hospital was divided into two separate areas. The first area became a field hospital which received and treated more than 2,000 expectant mothers infected with COVID-19. The second area was dedicated to newborns of COVID mothers. Under Dr. Tuyet’s guidance, Hung Vuong Hospital opened the H.O.P.E Centre in District 5 for healthy babies born to COVID patients.

As a member of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council, Tuyet has made many proposals to improve public healthcare and the living standards of medical staff.

“Dr. Tuyet has worked with the Department of Culture and Society on a number of issues, including incentive policies for coaches and athletes, which is highly appreciated,” Cao Thanh Binh, Head of the Department of Culture and Society of Ho Chi Minh City’s People’s Council, said.

Hung Vuong Hospital, led by Dr. Tuyet, has taken the lead in terms of public healthcare management for two consecutive years, in 2020 and 2021. It has won a number of international certificates, including a certification from the Reproductive Technology Accreditation Committee and ISO 15189, an international standard for medical laboratories.
