After studying information technology at the Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Van was recruited as a cyber security officer by the Ministry of Public Security. He now deals with preventing and fighting sabotage schemes and other law violations in cyberspace.

Van said that most criminals in cyberspace can get access to various sources of information. They create fake accounts and distort State policies, causing confusion and threatening national interests.

"Crimes must be solved quickly; otherwise, the evidence can be immediately erased by criminals. It takes time to solve high-tech crimes, and the technology is constantly changing, requiring me to continuously learn new things and expand my knowledge to keep up,” said Van.

In his 12 years working in the Department of Cyber Security and Hi-Tech Crime Prevention, Van has been entrusted to deal with several major cases. 

“Van has broad knowledge of IT. I remember working with him on a special project fighting a gang who were buying and selling people’s personal data. I was in charge of investigating, while Van performed the tracing. We worked closely with each other. Van used his IT knowledge to track the criminals down and brought them to justice,” said Van’s colleague, Captain Nguyen Cong Tuan.

Captain Van has developed a social network user data system and helped build a reconnaissance data management system for cyber security forces.

“Our department is specialized in the field of high technology and cyber security, which requires a lot of research. Van has come up with many initiatives and solutions which are highly applicable and contribute to protecting national security and social order,” said Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tien Cuong, deputy head of the Department of Cyber Security and Hi-Tech Crime Prevention .

Cyber security is a difficult and complex field that requires courage and silent sacrifice from security soldiers, said Captain Van.

“In this era of technological development, a young person like me has many opportunities to acquire new information and knowledge and learn from the experience of others. I need to work hard and be creative in order to ensure national security.”

In 2023, Van received the Prime Minister's Certificate of Merit for achievements in the cause of national construction and defense and was one of 10 individuals honored by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee as an outstanding young Vietnamese face.

He has also been awarded 4 Certificates of Merit by the Minister of Public Security.
