Despite her physical difficulties, Yen Ly dedicates herself every day to teaching sewing to workers at the Nguyen Ly garment facility in Ca Mau city.
The facility has 10 workers who are either physically disabled or poor. Nguyen Thi Thanh is one of them. Thanh looks after her parents who have been ill for a long time. The whole family depends on her small income.
“I’d like to express my thanks to Ly for giving me a job and an income. She is very kind and enthusiastically instructs me in my work,” said Thanh.
Yen Ly is sympathetic to people with disabilities who, she said, need to work much harder and exert a much greater effort to be successful:p.
“I feel so happy I can help other people. Our garment facility welcomes anyone who needs help,” said Yen Ly.
Yen Ly has 7 siblings, but she is the only one with muscular atrophy. She became so despondent she nearly gave up hope. But, the love of her family members helped her regain her hope.
In 1988, when she was 15 years old, Ly went to Ho Chi Minh City to study. There she met many people with disabilities and was determined to master tailoring. At that time, sewing machines required both feet to operate, but that was difficult for Ly because she only had the use of one leg. But through great determination, she learned to operate a sewing machine skillfully.

Later she opened a small sewing facility in Ho Chi Minh City which was expanded in 2019 to employ a staff of 15. She taught disabled people to master basic sewing techniques and thereby earn a living.
“I really admire Ly’s great will and determination. Despite her physical problems, she is successful and is able to help others. Ly is active in charity work, helping other people have a better life,” Tran Van Nhan of Ca Mau city said.
Ly’s success has been a source of inspiration for many other people to find success despite life’s difficulties.
