Vietnam’s contributions to UN applauded

(VOVWORLD) - International friends at a ceremony to mark Vietnam’s 40 years of joining the United Nations have acknowledged the country’s active contributions to the organization and its responsibility for the international community.

Talking with Vietnam News Agency on the sidelines of the anniversary in the US, almost guests agreed that Vietnam’s contributions have constituted the country a reliable and responsible friend and partner of the international community.

Participants heard that Vietnam, as a member of the UN, always strives to well perform its responsibility, as well as proactively take practical initiatives. It has been recognized as one of the countries leading in realizing millennium development goals (MDGs) set by the UN.

According to President of the Friendship Association of International Organizations in New York, Kenneth Welborn, Vietnam made active contributions to the UN in many fields, especially its initiatives to promote peace in the world, and efforts to implement sustainable development goals.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Jerry Matjila, Permanent Representative of the Republic of South Africa to the UN said Vietnam is a model for other UN member nations to learn from its experience, especially in social development, education, and food security.
