After visiting the Production Engineering Laboratory, President Steinmeier delivered a speech to hundreds of students at the University, saying he was impressed by today's Vietnam, where tradition and modernity are  intermingled. He applauded the role Vietnam has played in the region and the world, saying that although Germany and Vietnam are more than 10,000km apart, the relationship between the two countries is not distant.

Steinmeier said Germany is committed to providing bilateral assistance for Vietnam in such areas as ecological transformation, infrastructure development, and economic structure. The Vietnam-Germany University is a “lighthouse” project for the close relationship between the two countries and Germany will continue to support Vietnam in doubling the current scale of training, he said.

Joining the German President, Federal Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Hubertus Heil also talked to the students of Vietnam-Germany University. There was a short exchange between German businesses and teachers and students on the relationship between businesses and universities, labor needs and capabilities of graduates.

Founded on September 1, 2008, the university has attracted nearly 3,000 students enrolled in seven undergraduate and 10 master's programmes with a focus on high-tech engineering and economics.
