President Steinmeier, PM Chinh affirm economic cooperation as pillar of bilateral ties

(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier affirmed that economic, trade and investment cooperation are the pillars of bilateral relations and agreed to incentivize German businesses to invest in Vietnam, especially energy, railways, medical equipment, pharmaceuticals, and infrastructure.

At meeting with the visiting German President in Hanoi on Wednesday, Prime Minister Chinh proposed that Germany soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) and continue to cooperate with Vietnam to effectively implement the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) framework in which Germany is a participant. He stressed the need to coordinate to effectively implement future development cooperation projects funded by Germany, which prioritizes infrastructure construction, sustainable development, and renewable energy.

Prime Minister Chinh shared with President Steinmeier Vietnam’s outstanding achievements in socio-economic development and international integration. He emphasized Vietnam’s focus on its strategic breakthrough to improve institutions and infrastructure, develop human resources and restructure the economy coupled with reforming growth models.

Priorities are be given to the digital economy and digital transformation, green growth, circular economy, while science-technology and innovation are promoted, PM Chinh said and underscored responsible commitment to combating climate change.

The two leaders agreed to promote training cooperation, develop high-quality human resources, and strengthen cooperation mechanisms and frameworks in vocational training. The German President expressed his hope that the Vietnamese workforce will soon have the opportunity to work in Germany, positively improving the labor shortage situation in Germany.

Prime Minister Chinh suggested that the German President continue to create favorable conditions for the community of more than 200,000 Vietnamese people to successfully integrate in Germany, contribute to the socio-economic development of the host country, and serve as a bridge connecting friendly relations between the two countries.

The President Steinmeier praised the Vietnamese community in Germany and called them a valuable asset in the relationship between the two peoples.
