Vietnam earned 5.6 billion USD from fruit and vegetable exports last year, while its export market is expanding. This year’s vegetable and fruit export revenue is expected to be more than 6 billion USD.
The Mekong Delta is Vietnam’s major hub with many types of fruits exported to 60 markets, including the US, Australia, the EU, Japan, and China.
Phan Thi Thu Hien, Director of the Post-Import Plant Quarantine Center II of the Plant Protection Department, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, said that the import requirements set by countries are divided into two groups.
“The first group set basic requirements: once the import fruits are not contaminated with quarantine objects and don’t leave pesticide residues, they will be granted with a quarantine certificate for export. The second group which puts forth more difficult, high quality requirements involves markets such as the US, Australia, Japan, and South Korea,” said Hien.
