Phong is the best male archer of the Vietnamese Archery Team, reaching the semi-finals of the Antalya Hyundai Archery World Cup, the last Olympic qualifying round, which is awarding five spots to Paris this summer.

The other 11 Vietnamese athletes going to the Olympics are cyclist Nguyen Thi That, shooters Trinh Thu Vinh and Le Thi Mong Tuyen, swimmer Nguyen Huy Hoang, weightlifter Trinh Van Vinh, badminton players Nguyen Thuy Linh and Le Duc Phat, canoeist Nguyen Thi Huong, rower Pham Thi Hue, and boxers Vo Thi Kim Anh and Ha Thi Linh.
